I've had this model for ages, but could never find the small tile zimmerit I wanted 🙁 

Decided to make my own zimmerit by scribing paper-thin plastic sheet. 

 

Just two light strrokes is enough to scribe the plastic. More than that can cut it. 

 

The scribed sheet glues well with liquid cement. 

It melts quickly, which adds texture to the individual tiles. There's also an opportunity to inflict "battle damage." 

Can even zimmerit the ball-like machine gun mantlet 🙂. 

All the zimmerit is now applied... 

 

Making periscopes... 

According to all my photo sources, I had to shave some zimmerit off in certain places to be historically accurate... 

 

Almost ready to start painting... 

Re-locating the tube for the gun-cleaning equipment was the most difficult modification. Had to remove the molded-on straps and replaced them with plastic and metal strips.

Burnt Umber wash being applied... 

 

A general wash can be pretty ugly, until it's swabbed off... 

The oil wash is gently removed with mineral oil, cotton swabs, foam pads, and dry paint brushes. 

The tracks are not to my liking... 

 

 

Attached spare tracks and scratch-built holding rods with bolts.
