Jeez, everybody is building MiGs all of the sudden... I'll take a seat for this.

You are right, they surface more often now . I have only one MIG in my stash - and its a MIG 8 🙂
Took seat as well.

I have an old KP MiG-15 UTI I am probably going to do at the same time as I do my Eduard MiG-15bis. Should be fun comparing the two generations of kits!

Hey Ł, keep us abreast of this promising build, I'm thinking of the MiG-17 next.

Looks good !!! following ... I'm about to start another retro-project ... Heller 1/72 Mig-21 ,,, Parts seem to fit quite well

Thanks a lot for this interesting feedback.
@Gordon: my KP stuff waits for me too, but I still procrastinate😉
@Andy: The latest and greatest Airfix Fresco is currently planned as next 🙂
@Yuri: I don't have the Heller one, but my Matchbox knows that every dog has its day 🙂

Bit less complicated than the Fitter, but yes, it comes together very nicely 🙂

That's nice progress and a sweet looking cockpit - but what is the black stuff you are using as cement between the parts?

![](/profiles/img/13641-502-s.jpg)
Thanks, this is Mr.Cement SPB by Mr.Hobby (Id: MC132). Convinced to give it a try by my local M-Zone hobby shop. However for some uses I'd still prefer the transparent version and I have to buy one soon 🙂

I was wondering the same about the glue. Is the point so you can see where the glue goes?

Łukasz, which colour did you use for the cockpit? Looking good so far.

![](/profiles/img/13641-502-s.jpg)
Eduard states it should be C308 (FS36375), which is Light Ghost Grey, so I took the Hataka's equivalent C037

What kind of weights did you use for the nose? They look like regular split shot sinkers, but really small, much smaller than the ones I managed to find in the fishing stores around here. It would be easier to use them instead of having to cut and break off chunks like I need to do with mine.

You're absolutely right Thomas, that's what I proposed in your topic. Dunno if they have any specific name. I just went to a big fishing shop down here and asked for the smallest available ones and that's what I've got 🙂 I can take a picture of the box they are packed in if you want.

Thanks, currently thinking how to mount the canopy, so I can make it open after spraying.
@Ben: It's a bit harder to find a shotgun ammo on this side of the pond😉

If you need temporary adhesive, try Gator's Grip Thin Blend. Water soluable, leaves no residue, easy to clean up and doesn't fog up the transparencies. You can also use MicroScale Kristal Klear, but I find it a bit more difficult to work with.

Hi Lukasz, normally I use revell colorstop to fix a canopy before painting. Then I can remove it after painting. Cheers Stefan

Many thanks for your input, mates. I have to note them somewhere, so I don;t forget. In the meantime I attached it using the blutack, will see if it works. But before spraying the aluminium I have to correct the fuselage joint seams once more 🙁

Short update: MiG has been primed and I started spraying with black and dark aluminium

Nice work and clean metal finish! I also see that you were clever and masked off the wing walkways before brushing on the Alclad instead of the other way around - I made this mistake with my Mistercraft Fresco. and it was sheer horror trying to mask it off later! Will you be using some clear varnish afterwards?
5 June 2020, 21:46
![](/profiles/img/13641-502-s.jpg)
Thanks, I used to secure the walkways first, as I don't want to worry then whether my masking is actually parallel 🙂 Masking it first with a single strip of tape solves the issue once for all 🙂 However sometimes the mask goes up a bit and this is the case - I have to correct the left walkway a bit.
On the other hand thin layers of Alclad used to be very strong, so I'm not afraid of masking it afterwards.
Regarding the varnish, the answer is 'yes', the GX paints are going to be used as usual.

So, I finished spraying and I feel I haven't actually - the colour difference is striking to me. The last and brightest was Mr Hobby Aluminium. The Alclad Airframe Alu looks like Gunmetal beside it. I need to either darken the Mr Hobby one or lighten up the Alclads - something to think about for the next couple of days (a filter or smoke maybe?). Ideas are welcome.

![](/profiles/img/43210-725-s.jpg)
I've seen pictures of eastern bloc aircraft where the difference in panel shades is very striking and others where the same panel differences were more subtle... so not sure either approach is incorrect.
15 June 2020, 21:06
![](/profiles/img/57594-909-s.jpg)
It was explained to me that the duraluminium sheets have a certain "direction" from the milling process. Depending on which direction the sheets are attached to the structure, and also on the direction of the light, the different panels can appear brighter or darker, ranging from almost white to very dark gray. If you would turn the aircraft, the bright and dark panels would be constantly shifting. So your photo is not unrealistic at all, in fact it looks pretty nice! But if it bothers you, maybe you could mist on a very thin overall layer of Alclad alumimium to even out the differences? It should be pretty easy, just cover the walkways.

![](/profiles/img/23938-707-s.jpg)
I agree with Ben and Thomas. Looks great. I would recommend caution, and definitely trying it out on scrap styrene, should you try to tone it down with a mist coat. In my experience, metallic pigments are generally coarser and difficult to apply as a see-through layer. I would experiment with a diluted light gray coat, as this also provides that dull look of oxidized aluminum. Either way, a great looking build 👍

![](/profiles/img/16672-187-s.jpg)
Ahhh this is how a 1/72 MIG-15 looks like when it is done Clean....(tears are rolling down my cheak!) Very good job so far !
16 June 2020, 12:45
![](/profiles/img/13136-468-s.jpg)
Are you going to put on a dullcote? That will subdue the differences too.. Either way, Looks great, Lukasz!
16 June 2020, 13:38
![](/profiles/img/13641-502-s.jpg)
I had to google the "dullcote", but I assume you mean varnish 🙂 Yes, I'm to seal it afterwards.
Ben, the famous '346' was quite new, the difference between the panels is rather subtle on the American/Danish photos.
Many thanks for your say mates, I think I'm going to experiment a bit with a mist of alclad aluminium. Plan B will be the grey dilluted colour. Anyway I have to force myself to mask the black stuff once more 😄
Thomas, you made me wonder if polishing it in different directions would recreate the effect... 🙂

Short break - I found out I forgot to order the stencils while shopping last month 😄

![](/profiles/img/13641-502-s.jpg)
Stencilled, washed and sealed with the first layer of varnish. Currently I'm fiddling with the external details - undercarriage, pitot, guns and so forth.

![](/profiles/img/57594-909-s.jpg)
Oh yes, it sure looks pretty and shiny! You seem to have fixed the shade difference problems, what did you do to get it done?
17 July 2020, 20:59
![](/profiles/img/13641-502-s.jpg)
Thanks, in the end I sprayed a very thin coat of Alclad alu over all the panels (except the walkways of course) to even it a bit and Ithink it worked. Still the difference is too strong for me in some places, but I have to live with it😉

I may try a similar method above on the Fiddler just to even things out. Glad yours worked

I think it looks great. Looks like you had no issues applying Allclad mist coat 👍. The stencils sure add nice detail.

Looks great Lukasz! Will keep your build for reference when I build mine.

Thanks a lot for all the compliments 🙂 Just remember to seal the mist quickly - I managed to scratch it a bit here and there.

Nice and clean work and a very pretty MiG!. I just started the decaling process on mine, so I should not be too far behind.

Watching yours as well, mine should be done by tomorrow, then it's time to switch to Hurricane and Swift.

Nice! I should just make a Czech one so we have a nice iron curtain lineup 👍 😄

Thanks. Sure, you should, at best the silver-blue checkerboard one😉

Damit, that is one realistic looking diorama in picture 45! The sunlight, the nice depth of field effect and that lovely "by-the-way-it-just-happened-to-be there" C-11 Moose in the background made me for a second think that it was a reference photo of a real MiG-15. Well done!

Thanks Thomas, the colour cameras were not so popular in the Stalinist Poland though😉
Btw. the escape took place exactly on the day of Joseph Vissarionovich's death 🙂

Niiiice and shiny 👍, but tell us more about the hangar in the background! 😄
Awesome photos, looks very real 👍

You've 'aced' the project and the final photos...cracking finalé Łukasz!

![](/profiles/img/13641-502-s.jpg)
Thanks guys, I hope it's not too shiny. The plan was to have it in kind of satin look.
@Alex: Looks like you missed my (in)famous hangar project:
Hangar | Project by Woody (1:72)
@Andy: I have to admit I find a lot of fun in taking the sunny pics of completed builds 🙂

I looked at it again today and I consider giving up the black primer for Alclads, they become too dark for my taste. It's only so bright in the sun, on the shelf it looks more like abandoned Albanian MiGs of the 1990s😉
20 July 2020, 11:33
![](/profiles/img/23938-707-s.jpg)
I am on the same page regarding black primer for AlClad. Makes sense for shiny NMF but it darkens the silver too much otherwise, for my taste anyway.
