Went to a local shop that had recently stocked the kit. Disappointingly, the front and back leaf spring suspension is the same size. A grave error by Takom for the late and mid production variant. Accurate for the early version though.

That is a good idea. I have an Academy Hetzer in the mid variant. It is possibly one of the easiest and more accurate kits of the Hetzer out there. About the leaf spring sizes, strictly speaking not all early versions had same size front and back. From what I recall it was possible the change was made later into the early variant production, which carried over to the mid and late versions. If you do make an early hetzer with the same sized leaf springs though, do note they tend to sag in front a bit due to the forward biased weight.

You bring up a moot point. Lots of modellers (most?!) get their panties in a twist about track sag. They don't think. They latch onto a marketing ploy and don't do research.
When a tank moves forward the sag is taken up by the sprocket pulling the tracks forward thereby tightening the track tension before the tank is driven forward by the clockwise motion of the sprockets. The track sag is actually under the sprocket before the track hits the ground. And when the tracks are hot or cold greatly affects the tension.
I guarantee you most modellers are completely ignorant of this
