Thanks Mates! This is since a long time a kit that motivates me a lot! The surfaces look superbly only the pe´s are more than made of steel!LOL

Thank you, Vorya and Jonns!
The decals on the instrument panel have settled under liters of Set and Sol. Now a little drybrushing and a small wash will be applied. Maybe tonight or tomorrow. But i like to do it this evening, i´m eager to get to the bench!

Thank you very very much, Chaps!🙂

Yeah it really does look like a very good kit !! I've always liked the look of the Star Fighter.
I particularly like the fact it comes with photo ref (this should be standard for all kits I reckon 🙂 )
expensive though but quality !! no Yanky markings which seems strange given how many other countries are catered for in this kit, I wonder if they have a rebox of this kit with other versions ?
Anyhow, one does look forward to your progress 🙂

cool. does that boxing come with PE I wonder ?
What a difference PE makes !!
I've used it for the first time on my latest Neglected Kit Resurrection, a 1:48 Airfix Spitfire, just seatbelts but even that little bit has made such a difference to the cockpit, I am now convinced of its value, fiddly though it maybe 🙂

Hallo Holger,

Yes Choppy, pe´s enchancing this kit indeed and they are included in this kit. But enjoy them with care!
I never saw a pe-fret which was so thick like this! Its nearly thick a tenth of a centimeter pure brass! The small part are only to bend when you have a "Hold ´n Fold" because you cant bend them with your fingers or you risk a cut!!
You maybe noticed that i didnt used the Cockpit pe´s. The kitparts are more dimensional and 3D. The pe´s are flat like a female religion teacher!LOL😢
Christian, the longer i build this kit and the more i learn about its history and capabilitys, the more growes the fascination in me about this spectacular aircraft!
And a lot of my old builds ended up with a firecracker in its butt, not only at new years firework!😢😄

Sorry Choppa. I knew it was going to be a lengthy comment, so I wrote in German to be bit faster. Holger, you are absolutely right about the Tomcat in 1:48. As a boy I did build one from ESCI??? and it was huge! And I think I like these planes, because I build most of them as a child and have some nice memories 🙂 Like Christian said: Build them again with the knowledge and skill of today. I guess I have to increase my building pace 😉 and I have to add the F-111 and the B-1 Lancer to the list.

just to reiterate Jonns, you think Contacta is easier to use than Extra Thin because it doesn't dry as quick ? 🙂
I have yet to try this but I saw someone dry fit the fuselage and the run extra thin along the seem line presumably allowing capillary action to get between the seem. Though I am guessing a good fit would be needed, I liked it though, simpler, I will try it on my next model 🙂
Are Extra Thin and Mr Cement cellulose based ?
Just thinking of clean up

Hey Choppa,
i dont know if its cellulose based. And i actually did no dryfit at all. But when the fit is similar to the other parts, it will be more than a good fit!
My problem is that Thin dry´s so fast and i always use too much of contacta! LOL My fingers stick more than the fuselage halves, when i use contacta! 😄😄

the fit on the spine portion looks pretty good though or have you tidied that up already ?
as for flash a little bit you can cope with but the amount of flash on my Airfix Catalina is driving me nuts as is the poor fit, so much for a rapid build, it's almost like a vac formed kit.. lol 🙂
Anyhow, nice to see some progress on the beast ! 😄

Good morning guys!🙂
No, nothing is cleaned up on that pix of the spine. Afterwards i just took a sandingstick and slightly rushed over the glue joints. There is only one spot that maybe needs some filler but thats nothing serious. (But i sometimes have the tendency to screw up things, i thought they are not serious!😢)

I suppose that you can find some metal structures for it. I'd simply heat up some lead and make the nose cone out of it overall. Just take the nose, put it in some fine grain plaster and make a form of it, then take in out when dried and put it the hot lead or tin in it. After it has gone cold, take it out and glue on the fuselage.

The front wheel is less of a worry than you might think with regard to weight bearing strength etc.
It is the main wheels that will be taking almost all the load because the centre of gravity will be very much closer, all the nose weight does is move the CG forward of the rear wheels and it only needs to be 1mm in front and it will sit properly and thus the nose might only be supporting a few grams of weight....
Anyhow, butt-on mushroom 😄

Holger, The PE air brakes sit deep you say, well, would it be possible to glue in some really really thin strips of plastic sheet just inside the recess where the brakes come to rest, so that the strips are like a "lip" or 'ledge' so that the PE brakes don't go any deeper than the lip lets them, keeping the PE "flush" with the fuselage when closed. Wow, that sounds as clear as mud, but I reckon you get my drift yes ?

Exactly, and that idea seems to me, to be a logical one. It's all in getting the 'Look' right, and the remedy is not all that hard. Just make better use of what is at hand yes?.

You are all welcome gents, I'm just looking for some ideas on my diorama for the StuG III, so I thought, oooooooooooooooooh, I wonder if someone would like this find as much as me 🙂

It is my opinion that the panel lines on the fuselage top are too wide and too deep. I would rather fill them up, smooth them down, then retouch them lightly with a pencil prior to painting. Using different paint tones and dirt would show well, even if there is no scribing. I say this because re-scribing over filled panel lines is not easy.

Just to add an alternative idea, the entire fuselage top can be covered by thin metal sheet panels: note close ups of the real thing, all the panels are two-dimensional - hence easy to make and detail. OK, I know I can be a perfectionist at times...

Aghis, you perhaps think like the guys from eduard! The exterior set provides pe for this problem!
And i will not overdo it, in this case... The molds are obviously mature enough to get changed!😢

Holger, How sweet it's looking now mate, but I didn't realise how deep the panel lines were until the close up of the spine. But delightful all the same mate. 🙂

Thank you very much guys! I appreciate your comments very much!
I really have to admit that masking the clears in this scale is such a joy! Much better than in 48 & 72! LOL
Yesterday it was so boring in the office that i took the 9(!) parts of the starboard wing tip tank with me, to assemble them whilst work. Nearly no clean up was necessary and just minor sanding was required!

Hehe...

obviously I dismissed "Anything you can do I can do better" as it's too narcissistic 😉

Here are the first pics of my new build. The Italerie F-104G in 1:32. A nice kit, so far. Just a bit flash on the molds, nothing serious! This particular aircraft will get the markings of the Marineflieger Geschwader 2, as provided from the 2 large decalsheets in the box. Decals are from Cartograf and perfectly printed and HUGE!🙂
