Some more pre-assembly. Refueling door is a challenge. (see photos) Considering it's a a re-boxing of a 1983 mold, it has a few fit issues. I'll post some more photos soon.

Aww, that kit seems to be quite a fight regarding its age. Keep it up, and count me in!

Always good to see how someone builds a beautiful copy from an old box. I'm following you Bryn, absolutely ...!

New photos show that I have gotten the upper wing surface mated to the lower side. The fuselage is on and the intakes as well. Filler has been used where the wings surfaces came together as well as around the intakes. Nose cone is attached and will have to do some filling around it as well. For an old Monogram mold, it's fit is okay. Making the best of it. The forward fuselage required some sanding and I try and add back some panel lines. Next I have to get the canopy onto the frame. Easier said than done. So I'm off to do that.

I use Deluxe Materials Perfect Plastic Putty. I apply the filler, wait an hour and use a wet cotton bud to clean up and smooth out the putty. Works like a charm. You don't loose any surface detail that way.

Pulling up chair. I had to chuckle as I remember having to fill the same gaps in the wing to fuselage joints way back when!

Lost most of my progress photos from my phone. Finished the model a few days ago. Left the pitot tube and canopy unglued so that they can be removed for transport. Overall not a bad kit. Typical Monogram/Revell molds. I'd do it again.

Let me state right away, this is JUST a point of conversation.
I have noticed that every kit of the 102 and 106 have the wing flap split. It is actually one piece. I have the Squadron boxing of the 102 that has all kinds of resin upgrades. Even there it is modeled as two pieces. Which means I wont be cutting the kit parts out as I would just fill in between the resin parts anyway. I wonder why that has continued when all a company has to do is look at a single pic and see the mistake. I built the Meng 106 and did not fill it in as I had not noticed that until after the fact.
